430.109(B) of the 2005 NEC:
Stationary motors of 1/8 HP or less For stationary motors of 1/8 HP or less, the branch circuit overcurrent device shall be permitted to serve as the disconnecting means.
This supprised me a little, because I know I've used the branch breaker for the motor disconnect for larger motors when the panel is near the motor.
So the question is: Does this prohibit a the branch breaker from being used as the disconnect for a larger motor??
I can't understand why there are paragraphs in the NEC that tell me what I can do, and don't say anything about what you can't do.
