220.12 is the branch circuit load calcs for lighting, which refers to table 220.12. Just curious, why is this called branch circuit load calculations and not feeder? 3.5 VA / square foot is really a feeder calc not a branch circuit calc, no?
The Branch Circuit Lighting load, as calculated per 220.10 (and 220.12) is also used to determine the minimum number of branch circuits required per 210.11(A).
The feeder lighting load may be smaller than the branch circuit lighting load if you can apply any of the demand factors in 220.42. The Feeder lighting load cannot be used to determine the number of required branch circuits (See 240.42.) This is why they are separate.
