In your mind what would determine whether you run a lot of these circuits all the way back to near the the closet to a home runcbox(if you have to exit panel in conduit) in MC cable or you run homerun conduits( with multiple circuits) out to the space where the loads then branch down in MC. I see a jobs now where they run MC to box right outside the closet and only short runs of EMT to the panel.

1. I would think the location/ distance of the panel as that would increase the size MC needed. If you have a panel 220' as opposed to 80' away that could make a difference in conductor size.

2. Amount of circuits in area?? If a lot maybe it would make sense to run 1' or 1-1/4 with 6-10 20A circuits.

I'm not sure I see the benefit( again see a lot of jobs where it's done) to running MC cable back as opposed to a homerun to the area

With many multiple circuits in a conduit you would need to apply derating factors

I always preferred running EMT home runs to a location near the receptacles and then MC cable from there. If the distance is long you would end up running #10 conductors anyway so they can do double duty for the derating. With 20 amp circuits you can get 10 circuits in a 1.25" EMT with #10 AWG conductors.
