I'am putting the electric in a newly framed house on an Island in Maine. I plan on having the breaker box by the front door, but the power has to come to the house on the other side. According to a contractor friend in Chicago where I live you can put a disconnect on the outside of the house after the meter where the power comes in and then run a certain distance to a breaker panel located in a different location. If I understand it correctly, the jist of it is that as long as there is a disconnect that is accessable where the power comes to the house it's OK to put the breaker box in a seperate location. Do you know if the same is true in Maine? or what distance you can run after the disconnect to the breaker panel?

Does the proximity to the ocean cause a lot of corrosion?
The Main switch can be inside the house. The only limitation on a feeder after the main is; size of building, and (eye are square drop)

Yes, it is right next to the ocean so corrosion could be a concern.
The house is very small so the feeder would run approx 25 to 30 feet.
