Do any of you know of a "non-manufacturer specific" Breaker lock? I am looking for a breaker lock that can be applied to a breaker that the customer wants locked "on". Specifically, this customer wants their tele/data circuit locked on and has several hundred locations, where the breaker manufacturer is unknown.

I know Brady makes a plastic one for Lock Out Tag Out, but does anyone know of one for locking a breaker on? Everything I have looked for is breaker manufacturer specific.

Thank you.

There is a small metal one that snaps on the breaker that I found at GE supply that works well. It would not fit a Square-D QO breaker but does most residential snap in breakers. It has a place for a small lock.

I hope this is right because the number is hard to read ( THL 103/ TQL HNDL LOCK ). It's cheap, it snaps on and then the dead front goes on so it can't be removed. It's lockable and made of metal. Other than that they make some small metal clips that are not permanent.

If you're supplying several hundred locations give them
a hundred Siemens breaker locks
a hundred Square D breaker locks
a hundred GE breaker locks
+ a hundred Cutler Hammer breaker locks
and 99 times out of a hundred, they'll have what they need

One - do you have a link or phone number?
Two - Any idea where we can get these?

They package up a "store" and send out the materials for installation by local contractors. They want one breaker lock that they know works no matter what store they send it to. So they don't want to ship out 5 breaker locks when they only need one per store.

Yes the breaker can still trip, it just can't be turned "off" by some store clerk that accidently turned a breaker off.

By GE Supply I really mean General Electric Supply. I would think that which ever supply house in your area that deals with GE could get them for you or you can just go to GE Supply on-line. I pick them up at the GE Supply in Norcross Georgia.

I was advised to buy them by an electrical inspector in that area. His idea was that they do meet code as permanent because you need to remove the cover to remove the lock out device. They lock either on or off. Three bucks a piece, can't go wrong for that.

To get those you have to go to the end of the Rainbow and find the Leprechaun, then you either get a pot of gold or a universal breaker lock, the choice is yours.

Actually I think 4 breaker locks will cover it

Is this close to what you are talking about?

Well let's see...Square D, Eaton/Cutler Hammer, GE, Siemens, hmm..4 could work, except the cases where there is still a Challenger, Sylvania, FPE, etc. panel in place.;)

From my 'vast' experience, I have found that two types will cover just about every modern breaker. One type will fit both CH and QO (3/4"), and the rest will fit everything else (1").

The 3/4" CH and QO both have the tiny slot at both ends of the projecting part of the body, and the rest seem to friction-fit all of the 1" "interchangeable" breaker bodies.
