Hello Everyone,
My understanding the breakers can be sized up to 2.5 times the motor amps. I have a situation where the FLC for fractional HP motor is 3Ams @ 120V. Normally I use minimum breaker size of 20A at commercial/industrial building. I was told to use 15A/1P breaker instead of 20A to comply with the NEC code "430.53(B) or (C)", since" 3Amps at 250% is 7.5A and the next size up is 15A and not 20A. If I use 20A, do I still meet this requirement? Thanks,
