Need information of circuit breaker size for a pump on an alternative sewer system for a private resident. Currently there is an 15 amp breaker and 14ga romex traveling 30 feet to supply the control/alarm panel for this alternative sewer system. We are being told that they can change the breaker size to an 20 amp breaker without changing the wire size since it is a inductive load. Is this correct?

If you look at 240.4(G) you will find there are certain areas of the NEC where the overcurrent protection can exceed the conductor ampacity.
Motors is one of those areas but specific information would be needed to make the determination, If there any nameplate information on the controller and if not, can you provide nameplate data on the motor ?

WV, welcome to the forum! :)

Your best friend here is the pump instructions, or call the manufacturer for a copy.
