breaker types

Hi Guys got an email from a friend, ask if I knew what a type M or type L breaker was as it pertains to a generator, I couldn't find the answer for him anywhere.

All I find is type M breaker has electronic signal termination for opening,
and a type L is motor compliant.
The frames looked different in size though.
