I’m working on two new buildings; Parking Garage and Office building that are adjacent to each other but each will have its own service. The office building is backed up by a generator. Can I bring a feeder from the office building to power some standby loads in the parking garage? is there any special requirement that I need to be aware of?

Thanks,

Thank you.

This will raise another question, can the feeder brought from another building be used to power emergency power such as lighting and elevator since it's a second source or it has to be direct from the generator?

Thanks,

Be careful here. I cringe when I see the word "emergency" used, because it is often used where it does not belong. If the lights and elevator really fall within the scope of NEC article 700 (i.e., are designated by some governmental authority as being "emergency" loads and therefore requiring an "emergency" backup power source), then they cannot be supplied from the same transfer switch that serves non-emergency loads. If the office building as an emergency distribution system with its own transfer switch (possibly in addition to a second transfer switch that serves optional standby loads), then yes, you can bring a feeder from thatemergency distribution system over to the parking garage, and use it to supply emergency (i.e., egress) lights.
