Helping my aunt with a bathroom remodel and new garage wiring. I brought a 70cfm Nutone from the electric supply house and she told me to take it back, she had a bad experience with Nutone. I could probably bring her a Broan and although the same company she would not know the diff but I dont want to pull that.

What other companies do you use for bathroom vent, light combo units and have good luck with?

I think Nutone bought the Broan company but still manufactures under the Broan label. If you look at the same CFM models the foot print and basic design are almost the same.

We use all three brands and depending on price Panasonic would be a good replacement brand. Like Oakey we have not had any complaints with Panasonic.

It's funny how one "bad experience" whatever that may be, will ruin someones perception of a product or company. The reality is that there a a gazzilion Nuton fans in place right now. If anything has a proven track record Nutone fans would be it.

Side note. I never install anything less than 110 cfm. Unless it's a dinky little half bath.

Broan now makes some bath fans that are about as quiet as Panasonics and still cost about 50 bucks less. Look for the box that says "ultra quiet" on it. I've put a few in now and they are pretty good, but way easier than Panasonic to hang. I never did get the hang of Panasonic's hanger system and usually end up creating some blocking/ wood screws thru the can hangers of my own to keep it in place.

90% of what I install are Nutone. It's a good all around brand. It's odd that someone outside of the electrical trade would even be familiar with the Nutone name much less have had a "bad experience" with it and remember the name of the manufacturer, especially a woman.

I suspect your Aunt is just being persnickety, she just wants to be high maintenance, she might have said the same thing had it been a Panasonic. She's your Aunt so you can't go "All Businesslike" on her derriere, but if I'm doing a job for a regular customer and they suddenly express preferences for materials they they did not mention prior to signing the contract, I charge them dearly for that.

BTW, I NEVER do electrical work for family or neighbors.

Let me clarify her "trouble" with Nutone.

Less than a year ago she had a bathroom remodel and the fan got caked up with powder, hairspray, the works. No one takes it down and cleans it. It got out of balance and started making noise. She could not find the receipt therefore Nutone would not honor the warranty because she had no proof of purchase.

So her problem is not really a legit problem.

She is however, the customer and that is how she sees it.

I will try to find a Panasonic vendor.

Got it. That's for clearing that up.

I installed a Nutone heat/fan/light when I ran a service call and did not want to drive the 60 miles to get a Panasonic.

Ended up going back because the heat did not work. It did work when I was there, I tested and it blew hot.

The guy was 90 I thought he couldn't tell.

It was the element. They are very cheaply made compared to Panasonic. Thin wires that glow. Panasonic has some big coils.

I called Nutone and they split the call and sent me a check for $120. I thought that was great. I exchanged the fan combo at HD.

I still buy Panasonic for high end.

get away from the noisy 70 cfm fans which are junk and get a real low son fan and she will be happy with the fan. put noisy 70 cfm in place and no brand will make her happy.

Air King is another brand. I had a customer once ask me to get the loudest bath fan I could find. He said he wanted "noise" to muffle in case he had company over. Till then I had never thought of it that way! lol

Thats funny. I've gotten that one before. What's even funnier is that the noise of the fan muffles the sound IN the bathroom. You can still hear the "noise" outside the room. So unless the company is in the bathroom too...
