I've been an electrician in Broward County Florida for about 5 years and I think i have I have enough hours in the trade to take my j-man test. I just dont know what process i need to follow to get the ball rolling on this. Where do I begin? I dont know who I need to contact to take the j-man test. In addition, from what I understand I have to have proof of my hours in the form of w-2's or something else. What else can I use for proof of the hours. Some of the companies I worked for were back in the 90's and I dont think I will be able to get copies of those w-2's. Any advice would be greatly appreceiated.

Start with the county building department. Through them, you can apply for the exam which is administrated through Thomson Delmar. Below is a link. The application for journeyman certificate of competency has experience verification forms which need to be filled out by your current and previous employers, or other licensed persons that can verify your experience such as a building official or engineer.

Once the county approves your application, you contact Thomson Delmar directly to schedule your test. Usually given 4-6 times a year. Once you pass the exam, your test results and application goes in front of the licensing board. Sometimes you are required to attend this meeting. If all goes well, you are issued the card.
