Can someone tell me where to find the requirements to become a master electrician in Broward counth / Florida. For example, journeymans is by county. I live in Broward. Broward says I need 8000 hours in the field and need to pass a test. What are the hours requirements (and other things) that one needs to be a master?

When I applied before my EC, they wanted:
1) Proof of experience (on their forms).
2) A credit check by certain providers.
Can't remember what else besides several checks.

This lady will assist you. She is very helpful and accommodating:

If she doesn't help. Ask for Tarry Baker of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals. He will be able to assist you on the matter.

I agree with nyerinfl.
If you are going to put in the effort, you might as well get your EC so you can work anywhere.
Using an expediter will cost you some cash but will save you all kinds of headaches.
If you want the name of a good one, PM me and I will send you the info.
You might want to consider Mike Holt's Boot Camp if you decide to go for the EC, it is well worth it.

The State of Florida Unlimited is the way to go.
You can pull permits anywhere in the State with proof of WC and Insurance
(and small processing fee).
I took Mike's week long Prep class in "99" and passed 1st try, well worth the investment.
I would allow at least 6 months for filling of the application and review process before you get approved.

I agree with the others about getting your unlimited. When I moved to NC, I had to take the EC exam (even though I had valid VA and SC 'masters' cards). I took the intermidiate exam (since I never planned to do work large enough for needing the unlimited). Guess what, 8 years later, I had to go back to take the unlimited exam to keep working. (Lucky for me I'm a pretty good test taker).

well i appreceiate all the advice. i am a little bummed about all of these regulations. i have several years experience. more than likely enough to go for the masters but from what Im reading, it looks like im going to have to get the j-mans first for several years. I was an electrician back in the 90's for many years and I thought to myself- WOW, theres no way I want to do this for the rest of my life - Im going to college! So, I went to FSU and FAU and got my bachelors in Computer Science. Came out of college in 2004 and starting working as a system administrator in an 8x8 cubicle. After about 18 months of that and gaining 50 lbs sitting on my butt in an office, I said to myself- This is horrible, I feel like Im in jail... The grass always seems greener on the other side I must say. Im convinced that this is what I want to do now for sure, after seeing how horible it was in the 9-5 rat race! Thanks again for all of the replies.
