What brand breaker will pass a home inspection for a Bryant panel? I’m having difficulty finding Bryant. Thank you
Agreed: BRWhat brand breaker will pass a home inspection for a Bryant panel? I’m having difficulty finding Bryant. Thank you
Agreed: BR
If the panel label is still there, it will list acceptable types, probably different brands, and some still made.
I was thinking of seeing additional types, like Siemens or Murray models. With Bryant it would be Bryant & possibly Westinghouse since Bryant was their subsidiary.
That part of Westinghouse was bought by Eaton, hence the Eaton BR = Bryant. With Bryant it would be Bryant & possibly Westinghouse since Bryant was their subsidiary.
Although the Murray MP / Siemens QP (again, same thing) were once called "universal" breakers and interchangeable with Bryant, Crouse-Hinds etc., that changed from a listing standpoint and is no longer acceptable unless the breakers are "Classified" to be used in SPECIFIC panels from different mfrs. From what I can tell, Siemens has ceased maintaining the "Classified" listing of the QP lines with old Bryant or Eaton BR panels, they no longer make any mention of it in their literature. So if you can't show it in writing to an AHJ, you can't do it.LarryFine said:I was thinking of seeing additional types, like Siemens or Murray models.
Are you saying that modern MP or QP breakers can't be used in older panels that list them?Although the Murray MP / Siemens QP (again, same thing) were once called "universal" breakers and interchangeable with Bryant, Crouse-Hinds etc., that changed from a listing standpoint and is no longer acceptable unless the breakers are "Classified" to be used in SPECIFIC panels from different mfrs. Older Siemens and Murray panels? Yes they can be used. Siemens will provide a letter stating that if you run into an AHJ that is unaware that they are one and the same, although I learned here recently that Siemens has modified that letter to have a specific age range (1982?) on the Murray panels (when I worked at Siemens, I was the guy that wrote that letter for my region and was never required to state an age range). Are you saying that modern MP or QP breakers can't be used in older panels that list them?
I'll take pics next time I see one, but yes, I have seen other brands' types listed on older panels.Older Bryant panels? Did older Bryant panels actually say on them that you could use Siemens/ ITE / Murray breakers? If they did (I'm not aware of that), then they would be.
Eaton BR = Bryant. : can I find that document to have for the inspector? That part of Westinghouse was bought by Eaton, hence the Eaton BR = Bryant.

Ironically, Eaton still has Classified breakers that can be used in many Siemens and Murray panels. That's not needed for the Bryant because, again, Eaton BR = Bryant.
Then you can't go wrong with BR breakers.I asked the owner to photo the label, it does not list any brand breakers at all. The large name label is Bryant on the label. At the bottom in small print it has : Westinghouse and under that it has ‘Bryant division.’
No inspector should need to be told that BR came from BRyant.Eaton BR = Bryant. : can I find that document to have for the inspector?
Larry, your examples are of older Murray/Crouse Hinds loadcenters. They frequently listed other manufactures breakers. I don't believe Bryant ever listed competitors breakers on their label.
