I'm probably in a very wrong place to ask this question but given there is so much knowledge here, I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm working on an American project that specifies a BS1363 type, 13A, 2P+E ex-proof socket and I have not been able locate anyone that manufacturers such thing.

Can anyone help where I can find such sockets or what I can use as equivalent?

Thanks!

This is a British standard, so look across the pond for an answer. Besoeker may stop by, he's in the Septered Isle and can probably point you in the right direction.

Not a requirement I have comw across.
The distributer we used was Europa Components.
UK number is 01582 692440.
email is europacomponents.com
The MD is David Sheridan.
I doubt that they stock the item but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

For a start you won’t get a DP BS1363 plug as they are SP+N. Many moons ago Walsall made a DP BS1363 for use in laboratories, I haven’t seen one for 30+ years.

Niphan make a sealed plug and socket, if they’re Ex rated I don’t know.

Great so I have this odd spec then.

SURFACE MOUNTED, DUPLEX RECEPTACLE, 250 V, 50 HZ, 13 A, 1 PH + N + G, BS 1363 TYPE, EXPLOSION PROOF. This what is requested. Is there any idea what I can use instead?

What is generally used in the UK for such applications in the hazardous areas?

There's a whole cornucopia of 2P+E sockets shown here. Maybe I'm missing something?

Item 5 721 30 shows a standard UK type receptacle which would take a standard three-pronged plug. The two lower holes in the socket are live and neutral. The upper vertical is for earth. It is not, in my experience, common to switch both live and neutral so calling it 2P might be a bit of poetic licence.

In any case, none looks to be explosion proof.

Yes, well, there is that. :D
