Can a cord/plug connection serve as a disconnecting means for a 208/240v 40a (9.6kva) transformer. It is connected to a specialized sauna and can be under load.

where does the code say it has to be "designed" that way? I suppose you could run into 400.10.

it does not seem to me that a sauna fits into any of the articles covering various kinds of heating, but does seem to fit into the appliance category.
