I'm a small shop. Who out there has a bucket truck and what are the rates for said truck? I'm looking to buy and want to guess on my ROI.

OK Your a small shop & want a bucket truck ?

Do you have enough bucket truck business to keep this asset busy making money ? Is your employee trained in bucket truck use ? Liability insurance ? Vehicle maintenance ? CDL drivers license ? Just some things to think about.

Along with owning equipment like that comes potential for jobs outside the electrical trade. Which can open a whole other can of worms in some cases, yet if you want to keep the truck busy you will possibly consider some of these jobs.

I found some old threads and pulled these from them:

Back to bucket truck rates...
We have a contract to install and maintain tornado sirens, so we have a 65' bucket truck. We also use the truck for other jobs, but the market here only adds $30 - $50 per hour for the truck, plus the rate of an electrician. It hardly seems worth it.
What do YOU charge for your truck? :-?

California Bucket Rates:
Bucket Flat Rate per day for big
jobs.
$500 per day, if job exceeds $2500..no charge for
bucket service.

Electrical (outdoor
lighting, ballast-reflector replacement/service)
$150 an hour with 3 hr min. sparky included. Parts are seperate cost.

Electrical Signage boxes, LCD digital
billboard & gas station LCDs.
$200 per hour w/3hr min,
includes 1 sparky and 1 helper

I don't have one, but have worked for two small shops that did.

Truck pretty much gets counted as a man.

And kwired is right. Be prepared for that operator to trim some trees or repair the metal wrap on a gas station canopy.

I have a Ford 550 with a 43' working height and it's great! It's my go to truck, good add, eliminates extension ladders and me falling off of em'. Only real con is everybody wants to rent or borrow it!:happyno:

I've got an old Verizon truck, I charge 80 cents a mile and 25 bucks an hour when its actually working. The 80 cents gets me to site and back, 25 bucks an hour plus my hourly rate while in bucket or while its set up at a sign, light pole whatever. I'm using it more and more.

80 cents a mile and $25 an hour even with your hourly rate, I think you are cheating yourself. But if it works for you...........
