For you guys that have your on bucket trucks. Parking lot lighting, re-lamp only 400w mh, poles about 30'. If done before 10am not a lot of traffic in parking lot. What do you charge per lamp?

Right here.
I'm not so much a per lamp guy. I can give someone a pretty good guesstimate on a per lamp basis, but the lamps you think you're going to replace turn into ballasts, burnt wiring, and lenses that need cleaned with putty knife and three rolls of paper towels each. I like to do that work hourly. For me, bucket trucks have proven to be a losing investment.

Most of the EC's in my area rent or lease. The leases are obvious because they will have Indiana, Illinois or some other "cheap to fleet" state plates on them with a magnetic signs stuck over the leasing company name.

The ones that do own have some real junkers that look like they are 20+ years old.

Cost of the lamp is pretty small compared to the total price.

As for how much per lamp, it kinda depends on how many lamps there are to change.

Hauling out a bucket truck costs the same whether you change 1 or 10, really. So the price per unit goes down.

Had a ladder truck but gave it up due to the cost of maintaining ins etc wasnt worth the investment and i got it for free Id have to agree that stock and time is the way to go dont forget to charge for the truck too

I agree, and I think I knew that before I even bought my bucket truck. I bought it anyway, and there are certainly times when I'm glad to have it but it sits still for too long in between outings. Anyway, I bill it out at a four hour minimum plus a standard mark-up on lamps & ballasts, usually between 35 & 50%.

I recall seeing a picture of an old bucket truck of yours filled with junk;)

Main reason I am asking about the charge per lamp is I have a customer in NJ who owns a shopping center where I live and I have done work for them in the past. I have a friend who owns a small sign shop and has his on bucket truck. He re-lamps signs but has never relamped MH lights and we are trying to come up with a number. I am thinking about $125.00 trip charge (it would be about 100 miles round trip) plus $100.00 per lamp. If transformer was needed that would be extra.

If I'm in a bucket truck, everything gets changed. Lamp, ballast, ignitor, capacitor, starter.... total refit. No sense coming back in a month to change the ballast kit.

Here all this time I thought my troubleshooting skills were lacking in the HID area. Now I find out I've just been doing preventative maintanance, thanks 480.

And that would be the right way to do it except..... This customer lets say is not from here, Hello my friend. If I were to give him a price to do everything he would stroke out. No no too many monies just light bulb. He would rather pay small amounts twice than one large one. Even thou the large price would be cheaper that the two smaller ones in his mind

I know what you're saying, but maybe you need to let your customer know that if they're in their business for the long haul, they need to spend money like they are.

About 40 bucks for the lamp and 40-80 for labor.

100 mile round trip will be about an extra 200 minimum unless it's a crapload of lamps.

Looks pretty sharp, anybody used one? I passed this one (I think) a few weeks back and followed for a couple miles, handles good on the road.
