Client wants a budget for approximate qty of 1x4's(no spec on fixture) that would be needed in following areas

Parking garage- 3,100 sq ft
Storage- 1,800 sq ft.

Is there something in NEC to help guide me? Thanks.

See Table 220.12 General Lighting Loads by Occupancy for minimum load calcs and call a supplier for fixture costs, A manufacturer like Cooper, Lutron, etc would be helpful for illumination coverage and types of available fixtures.

Take any of the publicly available light level standards for the respective occupancy classification and get a manufacturer's photometric software package and run it. It will tell you how many of what lights at what elevation to use to meet the customer's requirements.

I don't think I would use 1x4's in a parking garage. We always use MH or LED. And maybe even vandal resistant depending on the location. People do stupid things.

You want to average at least 5/fc in a parking garage. You should also check any local lighting ordinances for max watt per sq ft. to select a fixture since this sounds like design/build.

You could send a drawing to the manufacturer you use for a recommendation.

Suggest you get with an engineer with experience in garage lighting and Visual software. You can't put enough fluorescent 1 x 4's to do it right and not cost a bundle.

I just finished designing a 28,000 ft sq garage using the appropriate garage LED fixtures. Worked like a charm.

Lets face it, LED's are the way to go but require careful design.
