Let's qualify WHERE in Oregon this service rig is going to be. A rig for Astoria/Tillamook is going to be a lot different than one for K falls/Bend/Medford area. Just trying to get all "Due Dilligence" built in before everyone starts:)

Fair enough.

The big city, and the rural areas...The end of the road and the beginning. Tillamook is on my call list from time to time.

It is required to go everywhere.

Note: We get no snow days....meaning, when it snows, we go.

No days off.

I've got a few ideas...

I've got a few ideas...

Dodge Sprinter 3500 with the diesel engine getting 24 MPG
Get the tall chassis: 7' interior clearance
And the long chassis: 12' interior usable length
And the awesome ladder rack that just rotates down, with a 28' extension ladder, and 12',10', and 8' A-frame - Werner Old Blue ladders
In the back, near the seats: A medium sized jobox with hammer drills, roto hammers, super hawgs, sawzalls, band saws, etc...
On the left side, mostly stock parts: Plugs, switches, fixtures, nuts, bolts, connectors, couplings... every size, every color, every length, every type. Couple boxes of each.
On the right side: Tools... 4" hydraulic ko set, standard drills, augers, full Craftsman socket set, complete 28V Milwaukee cordless set with porta band and impact. leave the last 3' empty and put 3/4" plywood and set it up for shovels, picks, trenching tools, and at least 3 extension cords.
Install a switch and over cabinet lighting for the entire length of the van.

Then on the outside: Get the best possible back side vehicle wrap.

And this is just for starters

Been looking at one for a loooooonnnnnggggg time now.

One of the EC here in town has a few. I know a couple of the guys, and they sure like them.

Great engine, and nice vans... just don't go 4 wheeling with them.

tom tom on dash (even though i hate em) and a glove box with big box credit cards in it
Don't really like tom toms...

I 'd have my Dell XPS M1730 Core 2 Extreme on the RAM rack mount with the printer attachment right behind it. For my HP 460 cordless, bluetooth battery operated printer.
All of this tied into an 800W power inverter tied directly to the battery.

Print out estimates and invoices on the spot. (Which is what I am used to doing...)

The Dell has a verizon card tied into it that you can hook up your GPS to Google maps... or Street and trip planner...

I love my sprinter. Cant Imagine working in anything else. Not having to bend over all day has totally added years to my back. I just wish I went for the longer chassis, but I still manage to carry a lot of differant stuff.

What do ya'll think of the Dodge Sprinters for use as a service vehicle for both doing service work out of and using on job sites. I need another service truck/vehicle and am used to trucks with service beds on them. I have Dodge diesels that make about 17 - 19 MPG and was wanting something a little more economical. The guys like the trucks because they don't have to climb up in them to access tools or materials. Any thoughts?
