I always wondered if I were to ever build my own house What I would put in it. 400 amp service....under cab lights....toe kick lights....spare raceways into atti...and so on......If you ever built a house what have you put in that was extra or what would you do?

I would have closets with pocket doors and limit switches.

I'm also partial to wall sconces.

And lighted bollards and step lights.

Very quiet exhaust fans.

Gas appliances!

I did my house and I didn't drill individual holes for every NM cable. :D (inside joke)

I have a 200 amp service and it does just fine. I did however recently upgrade to decora devices and new minkaaire ceiling fans. I also got rid of the old black baffle trims and installed the white baffle enclosed trim.

I did install spare raceways to the attic and have used them more than once. I generally do that on all the homes I wire.

We are buiding one now, stick built in a factory setting, but I don't get to wire it. bummer. Had switched recepts installed in the kitchen for the cabinet lighting I will install later. Generator panel in the basement for needed loads. Not much else. It comes standard with AFCIs per 2008.

I once had a customer that wanted me to give him a 400 amp service during a remodel...not because he needed it but because his neighbor had that size service on a bigger house. Service envy
I said sure, if the poco has no problem with it. They did. At that time Florida Power (now Progress Energy) provided the meter cans. They wouldn't authorize one that size unless load calculations deemed it necessary. He was crushed and my profit margin was affected, but we both got over it.
I guess I'm just saying you can't always get what you want.

I would install a 110/220 volt service and put in a lot of tamper proof plugs and undercounter lights. I don't like track homes so I wouldn't buy one. And an FPE panel of course.

I would'nt have any electrical.Electricity starts fires and
EMF causes birth defects. An added bonus is, if I did'nt
have an electrical system, when I came home after a weeks work.
I would'nt have to do it for free on the weekends.

I'd do a 400 amp service, with 4 bolt-in panels, low voltage landscape lighting on the deck and up the front walk, couple troughs, christmas light contactors with switched soffit outlets and outlets under every window for candles. Stair lighting, tray ceiling lighting, too. Oh wait, I already did all that.....
