I Just Reviewed A Project That Calls For A Contimuous 4/0 Bare Conductor Around The Entire Structure With Ground Rods Driven At 200' On Center And Test Wells At The Ground Rods (Nothing Out Of The Ordinary). The Problem Is that The Structural Engineer Has Designed The Foundation To Be Backfilled With Gravel (For Drainage And No Lateral Loads) Up To The Top 2'. What Are Some Suggestions For Installing This Ground Ring. I Suggested We Install The Ground Ring At The Footing Level And Then Run A 4/0 Conductor To The Surface For Test Wells. The Gravel Backfill Extends About 20' From The Foundation Wall. Can You Think Of Any Other Ways To Make This Work.

That is how I have seen it done in the past. Had one contractor install a 4 foot PVC test well to over come the fill of course our test technicians could not reach the top of the rod as none of them have 4 foot arms.
