I ran into a odd one yesterday and need some advice. I'm trying to supply a 30A 240V feed from a Bulldog Push Matic panel. There are 30A single pole breakers available, but no way to tie the handles together (if this would even work). My question is; Are 2 pole common trip breakers available for this panel? Will ITE Push-O-Matic breakers work? They look the same, but I'm not sure about the rating for the Bulldog Panel.
Thanks for any advice

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

You might check with Ace Liquidating. They stock many brands and they have the means in-house to test them and furnish a warranty.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

steve,
Common trip breakers are made for the Bulldog panel. ITE bought out Bulldog many years ago, so the ITE breakers should fit. Check the breaker package for info on the panels that the new breaker is listed or classified for use in. Remember that the 2 pole breakers are horizontal in this panel, not vertical as in other panels.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

Try Breaker Broker or TEXAS Breakers, they specialize in discontinued breakers, refurbished yes, but with a warranty.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

I am not trying to cast aspersions or slight anyone, BUT refurbishing small molded case CB's is usually not feasible.

These CB's do come with a warranty but how many contractors have the test equipment required to test CB's?

Having been involved for sometime with replacing obsoleta CB's I need and respect the suppliers of this equipment but, do not always buy into the sales hype.

I do test all the used CB's I purchase and a good number of them fail, but then I've had new molded case CB's fail.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

If my memory serves me right, these were bolted breakers but were used mostly for residential use. You didn't say what the application was so I am assuming it is residential. If that is the case, why use a common trip? If you need a two pole breaker, you will need a common switched but not common trip breaker. Most of the common residential two pole breakers are independent poles with handle ties for common switching. The Bulldog breakers straddled the bus and you had to go onto both sides of the panelboard to land on the breaker. :D

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

I found a new breaker (at a local supplier, who would have thought?). It's a ITE and manufactured by Seimens. I've replaced the ITE "Push Matics" before, but the "Bulldog" brand threw me. They will and do interchange. The existing breakers in the panel were single pole units and I couldn't conceive of any legitimate (ie legal) way to tie them together and make a common trip. A handle is screwed on between the two buttons on the new unit. The old breakers dont appear to be set up for this.
Thanks for all of the response.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

As memory serves me, Bulldog was a trademark or the predecessor to ITE, then it was Siemens, and who knows what it will be in a year. It was one of the first firms I knew of that went through that progression. However, the equipment was the same, all except for the badging and perhaps a catalog number that may have changes to coincide with the new owners numbering scheme. Bulldog probably goes back to the late 50's or 60's. As I recall, the pioneered the Vac-U-Break disconnect switch, still available today, and had bus duct all with the Bulldog monacher.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

There is an auction on E-Bay for a lot of 14 Bulldog breakers. The auction ends Dec. 5. Go to E-Bay and search for Item No. 3160361746.

Re: Bulldog PushMatic Breaker

Amazing> Five years ago those breakers would be junked. Who would of ever thought of selling old bulldog breakers?
