Hi and thanks for any input.
I have a job that requires installing receptacles for single and three phase equipment in a tenant space. 20 and 30 amp.

Building is an old warehouse type divided up into tenant spaces.Tenant spaces are not metered.
Existing service to the building is 1600 amp with very old ITE switchgear.
There Is a sub main feeding common panels which are a rats nest from many years of people adding circuits. Don’t even want to take the covers off!
There is also a sub main feeding old bulldog xl bus duct which runs throughout the building.
I have no experience with bus duct other than some very limited work in the late 80’s when I was an apprentice.
My plan is to install a new ITE/Siemens bus plug and feed a new panel for the new receptacles.

Has anyone had experience with bulldog bus duct?
Can bus plug be installed while bus duct is live?
Is it an “ easy” install or difficult?
I have been told different things regarding this.
I’m also afraid of shutting the main breaker feeding duct and it not coming back on

My interpretation of OSHA and NFPA70E, is that neither one would 'sanction' installing or removing plug-on units from energized busway.
I know what I used to do some 40 years ago, when XL busway was still available, and I won't let anyone under my control do the same thing now.

If you are worried that the main device is no longer functionable, what is your plan if it tries to trip while you a working on the energized busway?
Maybe it is time to have it serviced while you are working on the denergized busway.

In my experience, planned outages are always less expensive than un-planned ones.
