What is the best method of applying burdens, O/Hs and markup values to your estimate? Is there any benefit to calculating and applying a percentage/rate to each individual item (subcontractor, expense, piece of equipment, etc); or is it best to just apply a blanket value to your totals at the end? I suppose if you need to bid more competitively it would make sense to be as accurate as you can... What is your experience? Has an incorrectly applied O/H or burden cost you a job or ended up ruining your margin after you were awarded the job?
