Buried cable

Is it true that no single stranded wires can be direct buried without a raceway? Even if it is a triplex type cable. Only a cable similar to UF cable could be direct buried without a raceway.

Not true at all. Look up USE-2 cable.

The picture of use-2 cable sold at home depot has an outer jacket that encoses all the cables together.

Wrong picture.. that's SE, not USE. The NEC is a better reference than Home Depot

UF is a cable type which is not offered in single-conductor form.
USE is both a wire and a cable type, in that it is available in both single conductor and multi-conductor forms, both of which are suitable for direct burial.
