What is the term Burn Out, and if this is the correct terminology where would one start to look for such a term in the 2005 Code Book?

Re: Burn Out

I've heard the electrical term "burn in" with regard to dimming equipment. Lutron specifies 100 hours of burn in at 100% with some of their dimming modules. Otherwise you might have premature "burn out". But as mentioned you won't find this in the NEC.

Re: Burn Out

Article 700.16 uses the term "burning out":

700.16 Emergency Illumination.
Emergency illumination shall include all required means of egress lighting, illuminated exit signs, and all other lights specified as necessary to provide required illumination.
Emergency lighting systems shall be designed and installed so that the failure of any individual lighting element, such as the burning out of a light bulb, cannot leave in total darkness any space that requires emergency illumination.
