Hi guys, I need some advice..I went on a service call on a pool today for a melted twist lock plug , mostly the male side of it but the forks were welded into the female end and I thought 2 possibilities:
1) A loose connection in the cord end melted it
2) The motor is drawing to much amperage and melted the weakest point

This twist lock is 110v and gfi protected and didnt trip. I told the owner I'll set it back up with both twist lock ends but I need to check the amperage draw to verify the pumps status.
What do you guys think? Thx!

Just a loose connection, and my guess would be the mating conenction between the plug and receptacle was what was loose in particular. The receptacle is out in the weather, subject to abnormal wear and tear after all, and runs for an aweful lot of hours in a day. I fully expect to so a half-dozen or so melted pool plugs this year.

you beat me to it! i see a lot of melted GFCI's during house construction around here. carpenters plug in a cheap crappy cord and let it dangle out of the receptacle and run saws and compressors off of it. 99.9% im replacing panel gfci receptacles before the homeowner moves in
