In the application of buss drop cable what is the listed means of support for the cable for example a 100 foot horizontal run between 2 tension take up springs with quarter bends one at he buss plug one at the vertical drop? I don't think bridle rings are listed for this purpose. Does any one have a manufacturer or vendor for these entities?
This horizontal run would be above the "rafters" in an industrial setting. The code states supported by an approved means every 8 ft, What is the approved means? 368.8b Exception.

Re: Buss drop cable

Check with the cable manufacture.

But, I question why a 100' horizontal run? Can't some portion (most) of it be done in a raceway or cable tray? You may be treading on the application as being a "substitute" for fixed wiring.

Re: Buss drop cable

This is the way our facility engineering group wants to go. We had previously run thin wall all the way until we dropped below the "rafters" then went to RMC into the utilization equipment. They want the flexibility and time save if the equipment is moved a few feet either way.

Re: Buss drop cable

It's been a long time since my factory electricial stint, but I thought that horizontal runs of buss drop cable were limited to 6 feet. Maybe someone will cite code on this.

Re: Buss drop cable

Bus drop cable is somewhere in between the rules for rubber cords and romex.

Industrial situations fall under the exception to 368.56(B)(2) so you could run horizontally an indefinite distance provided that the bus drop cable is supported at least every 8 feet and within 6 feet of the busway plug.

However, a 100 foot horizontal run seems to be bush league.

You meant to site 368.8(B)(2) correct?
