We are having a pit constructed for a new piece of process equipment. Cranes and hydraulic concrete pumping equipment is being used and getting close (I do not have exact distances) to overhead busway. The busway is 480V 1600Amp. I am in the process of learning the NEC and cannot find where the clearance is called out. Can anyone point me to where in the NEC the clearance of equipment to energized busway during construction is called out?

You should take a look at NFPA 70E for the approach boundries. Just from my quick look at table 130.2(C), you should keep any conductive equipment/personnel at least 3' 6" away.

Is the busway 'open style' (you can see the individual bus bars like on a crane rail) or enclosed?

If it is enclosed, the only clearance requirement is to not 'touch' it, just like with any other piece of equipment or conduit.

It is enclosed busway. Thank you for the replys.
