What is the typical industry practice for hanging/supporting bus duct from an overhead ceiling? I need to specify this detail for a project that I'm working on and wanted to see what was the typical "best practice" for this application. This is Plug-In Busway that will have Bus Plugs and be horizontally mounted.

It looks like there are support clamps that can hold the busway form the top (hook hangers with single drop rod) or other support types that can hold the busway from underneath the bus (angle hanger requiring two drop rods). Both support types then use threaded rod to attach to ceiling. Is one type better than the other for a single busway?

This busway will also have a fairly large tap box to accommodate incoming conduits. How are these tap boxes usually supported from ceiling? Clamps or unistrut support?

Thanks

Busway support from Ceiling

I always use 3/8 or 1/2 inch rod and mechanical beam clamps from the top chord of the bar joists, but there's a ton of different ways to do it and as long as it supports the weight they're all good.

As far as the bigger plugs and tap boxes I usually support each corner of the box with rod up to the ceiling. Sometimes you have to span the joists with strut or angle iron since you never know where a tap will land.

I much prefer a trapeze hanger that I can set the busway on as opposed to the top only hangers, especially if the busway is on the heavy side.
