I am wondering what is the best route to go with as far as the journeyman exam prep books or the complete library? I have been looking at the Mike Holt web site and don't know what to get. I would like to get the exam prep, elec. theory books and so on. But would it be worth it to get one of the libraries with the books and dvd's? I am planning to take the test next year under the 2008 code I know you can't get the '08 Mike Holt libraries till April '08. So I have time to save $. What would anyone who has used either recommend? Would it be money well spent or should I save some cash and just get the basics? But I am also afraid of not getting what I need to pass the test. So if anyone can help me please reply. Thankyou

I would personally get whatever I can afford. I don't think there is any such thing as having too many resources and/or reference books. If you find one or more not suited to your needs, perhaps a co-worker or your employer could use it for their training needs.

when i took my New Jersey state test i used mike holts dvd set (the 500$) one which came with a test book and various dvds. And i also bought a Thomson Master electritians exam prep book and answered every question in both books. It took me about 3 months not including the month i spent on some other basic theory books. And of course not to mention many hours on this site. Just keep in mind Mike didnt cover everything that was on my test. I was very lucky to have used other books and media to bolster my knowledge. A lot of people take prep courses but i didnt bother i figured i already invested to much money in my other stuff. Anyway you cut it it was alot of long hours and hard work but it paid off cause I passed with an 84 on my first go. Good luck to you and remember if you start to get frustraded and burnt out its good to put the books down for a day or two and start fresh.

For the first part:
Books, sound like you answered your own "?".
Formula's, problem solving, walk throughs Equation's that what's in Books.
New Code book soon BTW...

Second Part: (lectures are just that)
How deep are your pockets ?

I agree with bphgravity, buy as much as you can afford. Also, get as many test prep Q & A booklets or there are many free websites with Q & A test preps. One other thing, absorb the most recent edition of NEC, the quicker you can locate something inside( if it's open book) the better off you'll be.

Just get what you need to pass, don't know about you but I need my money more than I need a code library.. You'll pick it up as you go anyways.
