Cabana Wiring

I'm getting ready to quote wiring a pool cabana. It's about 20 by 40 feet and pretty fancy. It will have a bathroom, a mini kitchen and a sitting area. It appears it could get used as a guest house but that is not what it is called on the plans

Since it is not a dwelling I'm thinking the rules for wiring a dwelling are not applicable. There are so many slider doors I will not be able to put receptacles every 12 feet. I also don't want to load up the counter top with receptacles they may not want.

So is this wired more like a commercial space where the code lets me put receptacles where needed?

Not sure what constitutes a dwelling. Seems like if they put a bed in it (or even a pull-out couch) it would be a dwelling. Is this right? If a bed is added does it then need to be wired like a dwelling?

If the bed is permanent(poured concrete with a blanket)

Dwelling Unit. A single unit, providing complete and independent living facilities for one or more persons, including permanent provisions for living, sleeping, cooking, and sanitation.

I can't figure out what this means. What kind of beds are not permenant? I don't get the concrete reference

Thanks for the definition of a dwelling. It helps, but makes me wonder what constitutes provisions for sleeping. The plans show a couple of couches. It's possible to sleep on one. Is it enough that the plans don't show a bedroom?

How friendly is the AHJ, seems they might go back to the filed drawings that where used to construct this on the property,
and make some call as to what this is structure really is.

A basement and the garage both get GFCI's, and this is around a pool?
Why would the protection stop at the doorway on the outside of this structure?
Why wouldn't you wire it like a house and protect it like its around a pool.
Those wet feet will be all over the cabana.

I would GFI all the circuits that have receptacles but I don't want to have an outlet every 12 feet because so many walls are glass. I want to avoid floor boxes in the slab. If it's a dwelling I will have to put them in.

So I'm back to the question of what constitutes provisions for sleeping since it meets all the other criteria for a dwelling.

If this is on the same lot as the main house I'm not all that sure that it would need a bedroom to be considered finished living space. You may get away without floor boxes but the kitchen counter top will probably be considered as a residential kitchen ( it's not commercial ).

I would call the local inspector and have a talk with him before doing the rough-in.
