Cable abbreviations

I did check many web sites but surprisingly did not find the full form of NYA...etc, except that these are low voltage cable 300/500 volt and recommended for use indoor application mainly in a PVC conduit. Some manufacturers even make it for 600/1000V. My only question is what distinguishes NYA...etc from PVC or XLPE cable?

Will this link help?

The 'N' designators seem to be from the German safety concern called 'VDE'.

NYA is PVC insulated.

I was not able to find a cross reference from VDE to the NEC designators. Looking at the multi-conductor cable I would bet that there are no direct cross references.

The cable seems to be used in Europe and Asia.

The cable is not listed in the NEC so it can't be used where the NEC is the required guideline.

I hope this at least gets you in the right direction.
