What does everyone use for bending 500-750 copper? Anyone tried this

greenlee makes something similar.

if you weld, you can make some out of 1 1/4" GRC couplings
and 1/2" rigid conduit. mine are homebuilt. the good thing
about homebuilt ones is you can make a few with the handles
at different angles, which helps a lot.

i've also got a greenlee 796 rachet cable bender that never seems
to fit where you need to bend. available dirt cheap to go to a good home.

the nicest thing to work with is this:

GREENLEE 800F1725 HYDRAULIC
CABLE BENDER WITH FOOT PUMP,
HOSE UNIT AND STORAGE BOX

Yes, we use those same ones for cables up to 750's. With these new super slippery conductors like Southwire's SIMpull they don't work very well because they end up slipping off and you usually whack yourself in the head with the tool. :slaphead:

We often tape the "jaw" with rubber tape or friction tape which makes a big difference.

Lately we no longer use anything over 600 kcmil because the increase in ampacity is not worth the extra labor to install it over the long haul. The wire hickeys do work on 600's with quite a bit of brute force and some tricks of the trade too. ;)
