I just bought a set of Klein ratchet cutters. They're good up to 600 mcm, I think. They're pricey, about $245, but I'm pulling alot of big wire lately. Also bought a tugger today! Current Tools, model 33, $2K.

Saws All.

Nice clean cut.......hey, it works! Try it on SER. Slice through the whole shebang.

Seriously, the ones Ken posted are good. I use them.

I purchased a Klien ratchet cutter on E-Bay for $175.00. Set up a Pay-Pal account for yourself and buy there. The supply houses want too much money for the same product. Don't get me wrong, the supply houses work hard for your business and I like to support them but when their prices are way out of whack (like $100.00) for an item like this I have to buy at E-Bay.

I have had a set of those for about 10 years and that's what I use most often. They will cut 750 Al easy enough, I don't think I have bought any 750 copper so I'm not sure.

I have sets of the long handled cutters but they are hard to get in a tight spots. Try mytoolstore.com they will probably have them at a cheaper price than the supply house.

I paid $200 at Mayer about 10 years ago but I'm sure they have went up in price.

Depends on which truck I'm working out of. A couple of them have the ratchet cutters. They are nice because they are small. The old school long handled cutter work fine but will tweak muscles if you have to cut in tight quarters,

The Sawsall actually works fine :)

i've had the greenlee's, after they got snitched, i got the klein's, but they
won't go up to 1000mcm.....

if you do a lot of large cables, *these* are pretty neat... i've used them,
and they will cut 750 mcm copper fast... and they don't get tired.....:)

huskie robotools.... mostly for stump jumpers...

I'll take a Greenlee 706 "Pie Knife" any day over ratchet cutter or a cordless cutter. I've used them all and the Pie knife is 10 times faster then anything else. This works fine up to 750 copper. After that I'd go hydrolic. The only exception is when your in a really tight space, then you have to go to a ratchet. I like the one from Ray Tools.

The handles extend a little bit for more leverage if you need it, but compact if you don't.

Same goes for most cutters.

i learned that the hard way. i forgot the messenger cable off the street is ACSR and was cutting it with my brand new 760's. next dayi get another brand new set of cutters. usually people do that just once. we have sets of the big choppers with notches in the middle from people doing the same thing
