Cable Entry/Exit Points and Electric Codes

Just a quick question. Are there any rules/codes that specify where cable entry/exit points must be on an industrial control panel?

There are multiple 480VAC entry/exit, 120VAC, and 24VDC entry and exit points for the industrial control panel.

I know that it is good practice to have cable connections ONLY on the sides of the enclosure, but is it legal to put connections through the back/top/bottom of the panel?

Thanks!

As far as I know, the only restrictions are for rain-tightness and water-resistance, either by suitable fittings or no penetrations above live parts.

Entries must be in those areas designated by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer does not designate specific areas then there are no restrictions. A field cut opening into a non-manufacturer indicated location technically must be approved by the AHJ even if made with listed connectors.
