Is there a requirement for use of an EXE Cable Gland if using XLPESWA Cable, MC Type Cable or a Seal if using conduit to an Explosion Proof Lighting Fixture installed in a Class 1 Div 1 or 11 area. My understanding is that if the fixture has no arc producing device then seals or EXE Glands are not required. We are using European Equipment but are having to carry out the work in accordance with NEC
Thanks in Iraq

Re: Cable Glands

There is a very serious problem trying to "mix and match" European equipment with NEC locations classified by "Divisions" (Article 500-501) rather than "Zones." (Article 505) Its one of the reasons the systems were split in the NEC.

I can still help you but I need much more detailed information. I need the location's specific electrical area classifications and ALL the specific nameplate data and markings on the lighting fixtures and the cables.

See Section 500.8(B) and 505.9 (C) for the markings you need to find.
