I was wondering, I must run a 500ft run to a 40 amp sub panel, what size conductors should I use considering voltage drop.

Re: cable selection

Is there such thing as a 40A panel? Asumming a few things due, I am supposing since this is a feeder it will either be 240V or 480V. I am also assuming 5% voltage drop and a K value of 12.9 for copper conductors.

At 240V, #3 AWG will be sufficent for a 40A load

At 480V, #6 AWG will be sufficent for a 40A load

Re: cable selection

While it may be a 40 amp panel, it may not be a 40 amp load, it could be only 2500 VA or less. The panel size doesn't dictate the load.
