Cable tray expansion guides and expansion plates

My understanding is cable tray expansion guides and expansion plates are not required for TRAPEZED type C’tray installations where all thread rod is utilized, attached to overhead steel beam.
Can someone comment on this?
 
The last two cable tray jobs we did with aluminum ladder on trapezes, I did not worry about expansion. We only went maybe 100'+ in any one direction. If a person had any real distance to go, it would still be worth a look in my opinion to see how much the trapezes are going to deflect, long trapezes might not be much of a concern, short trapezes.....might be a problem.
