I recently came across an installation where an HVAC contractor wired the inside unit of a "split system" AC with cable tray "Type TC (600 v)" wire. Our company was hired to install the power feed to the rooftop central unit. HVAC contractor who installed the equipment, wired the "load side" (120v) to the inside unit with "Type TC" flexible wire. I cannot find a designation for "Type TC" in Table 400-4. Wire was installed with RX connectors on rooftop unit, passed through the roof penetration (cow txxs), through dropped ceiling, then ran exposed on block wall to a disconnect switch, then to wall mounted unit.
I informed the customer that since I could not find "TC" in 400-4 that this would be a violation of 400-8. HVAC contractor could (or would) not provide any info either.
In the end I rewired the inside section with MC.
Anyone familiar with "TC", and has anyone ever come across a similar installation?
