Cable tray is structural support so…

Construction ran outta room to mount HVAC units so they devised a strategy to hang the units from the bottom of NEMA CLASS 20C cable tray…. The units are fairly large and weigh around 55 pounds each
This sounds insane to me but where in 392 does it say I can’t do it?

Yes sir and mostly it’s 480V power feeders

I don't think there is a specific rule in the NEC that says you can't do this.

I was think that too. Cable tray is not a raceway it's a support system so as long as the weight load on the cable tray is properly calculated I don't see an issue.
