Okay, I'm kind of new working with cable tray so I have a question about 725.48(B)(4) 2008 regarding class 1 and power in the same tray. It's getting late and I'm not thinking straight.

I have a number of motors fed from an MCC with just start/stop control. I would like to provide one multiconductor power and control cable FOR EACH motor. So, four motors and four cables, each cable containing the 120V control circuit for that motor.

Is this compliant with 725.48(B)(4) or are separate control cables required for the motors?

Yes it's okay this would be composite cable(type TC I assume) and they were not in use much as I was finishing up my career.Composite cable was used an awful lot prior and I never saw anything wrong with it.The reason it was not used much in later years was because it was a lot of trouble to split out the controls and route them to the control station,it was a neater ,cleaner installation if they were separate cables, tho some will argue that I'm sure. There was a kind of unwritten rule that if the power conductor was larger than#2 they would be separated or maybe it was #2 and larger, can't remember for sure.

Thanks Dick, that makes sense. I was looking at small motors where a #12 conductors could serve as power and control. I can see where the control station could be a pain. From what I've found, it looks like most people just run separate cables.
