Cable Tray sizing

Cable tray size = conductor diameter X number of conductors

What is the minimum inside width cable tray needed to accommodate ten 1/0 THWN-2 conductors?

I came up with 6” but the mike holt prep course says the answer is 8”..

Can someone please explain because the book doesn’t.

Check with tray or gear vendors for online calculator tools, spreadsheet. They should have one.

Didn't look into it too close, but make sure you're accounting for the raceway fill limits. They are either 40% or 50% depending on the tray type.
