NEC 2011

392.2 Definition:
Cable Tray System. A unit or assembly of units or sections and associated fittings forming a structural system used to securely fasten or support cables and raceways.

Through this forum I have learned that cable tray is not a raceway but a structural system as defined above.

Ref: 800.110 Raceways for Communication Wires and Cables (A)(2) Other Permitted Raceways

Q: Where Article 392.2 is very specific as to the definition of cable tray; what is the definition of other permitted raceways? Is this generic meaning that includes conduits as well as cable trays?

Reading 800.113 it would the appear the answer is yes.

No.

The title to that subsection was changed to Communications Raceways in 2014 NEC. It is referring to listed plenum communications raceways, listed riser communications raceways, and listed general-purpose communications raceways selected in accordance with the provisions of 800.113.
