Cable Tray

A question came up from a contractor on cable tray.
Cable tray is a support system and can be used with any wiring method.
The confusion is on installing Tray Cable. If for example, a 12-2 w/ground 600V jacketed tray cable jacketed cable, is a divider needed from limited energy cables, such as coax or class 2 ethernet?

I understand the divider is needed from single conductor tray cable, such as 1/0.

Did you take a look at 725.55(H) & (J)? For Cable 820.133(A)1 & (A)(2).

I don't see a divider as being required. I beleive 725.55 and the other limited energy sections that are similiar to it require seperation from the conductors, not the cables or wiring methods.

Unfortunately, Section 725.55(H) must be interpreted in context of 725.55(A), which is essentially a general prohibition.

I tried (and failed) to get cable trays removed from 725.55(A) and, in fact, 725.55(H) was added as a result.

Of course 725.55(J) still permits me to wind a Class 2 or 3 circuit cable on a common messenger with a type TC cable - but that's a different story.

I wish Ryan's interpretation were the prevalent one since this is not a genuine safety issue.

Hopefully, now that Art 725 has been given to a CMP not dominated by the telecommunications industry eventually this will be corrected.

Hmm...I think you're right. I have really been striking out the last few days on this forum! I need to start reading the code before I post anymore!!!
