When the calculated arc flash hazard is Category 2 (i.e. 4-8 cal/cm^2), does NFPA 70E, 2009, require the 8 cal face shield (w/ wrap-around guarding) only, OR, is the balaclava also required?
My interpretation does not require a balaclava to be worn in conjunction with the face shield at <8 cal. calcualted levels.
Am I right?
Thanks.

Your question, needs more information..

Your question, needs more information..

If your truly going to get a answer the task and voltage category need to be provided.
ie. 130.7(C)(9) on 600v class switchgear:
Voltage testing would require the HRC 2* ( Level 2 with hood or face shield and balaclava )
Opening hinged covers to expose bare energized conductors and circuit parts requires only HRC 2.

Thank you for the references. Exactly what I was looking for.
Indeed, 1.2 - 8 cal/cm^2 (calculated) requires the use of a properly rated face shield AND balaclava.
