Hello All,
I'm trying to decide on a course to order thru Mike Holt. I'm
wrestling with some bits of information that have been thrown
my way.
I'ts my understanding that the Calif General Electricians Exam is based
on the 2002 NEC is this correct?
Is the "Calif General Electricians Exam" and the "Journeyman
Electrician" Study material compatable?
Can anyone recommend a particular Holt product for the "Calif General Electricans exam?"
You may PM me if you wish
Many thanks
Dave

OK I have to ask - Which test are you taking and from whom?
California has two(+) tests if you could be talking about if you generalize and call it "Electricians exam"....
- General Journeyman's test for "Certification" to be employed by a C-10. The bain of the industry if no one else realizes it at the moment.... A market recovery program manipulated by a handful of big players trying to cut the competition by making certain labor illegal, or kill the competition by enforcement of ever changing rules. JMSO The offending government agency is the DAS.... It is a "certification" required to work, and once all of the unaffiliated are gone - C-10's will have to become signatory, or be forced into dealings with a whopping two other private associations.
- Residential Journeyman's test for "Certification" to be employed by a C-10. Same as above but limiting your sorry things into only residential....
- A C-10 license from the CSLB - a license to operate as an Electrical Contractor.
Since you used the word "GENERAL" partially in context.... I will assume that you mean you want one of these?
If so - you can find some
information here. And yes even though the state code is the 2005 NEC adopted with changes to be the 2007 CEC - the fools and morons down at the DAS who are all but completely removed from contact with the trade except for the corrupt organizations who sponsor them - are testing to the 2002 NEC.
If you are not really adept to reading and interpreting the code... I am sure a Mike Holt product could help - and would suggest "Understanding the 2002 NEC" - However, it does not provide a code to study by - which are available on-line, but if you need a code book - BUY one.... Even though they will provide one for the test..... Get practiced on HOW to look them up and HOW to interpret them - NOT MEMORIZING THEM!!!!! (A great way to screw up good) Since you seem to own a computer with internet access - you can use the freebies on-line... Rather than buying an obsolete code book.
The CSLB however has a two part test. The legal, and trade part.... Most of it is the legal requirements of contracting and business practice law. The trade element is based on the 2005 NEC - essentially the State code - CEC, and some other minor trade related safety and OSHA requirements.
If you are looking to take this - check back and I'll point you in the right direction for that....
