Tryinghard,

Currently CA requires you to have proof of ''X'' amount of hours working and 32 hours of continuing education to maintain status as certified electrician. With a month left until to meet your renewal deadline, it looks like you will have to go through the motions, pay the fees, and retest.

Unless you have taken any course's, such as, approved seminars, community college, NJATC ect.

Actually a more thorough search at Division of Apprenticeship Standards
states as examptle under heading I am already certified, but I have questions.: "I am a certified electrician but my certification expiration date is near. When do I have to renew my electrician certification?"
answer
"California Labor Code 3099.2 (a) (3) For purposes of any continuing education or recertification requirement, individuals who become certified prior to the deadline for certification shall be treated as having become certified on the first anniversary of their certification date that falls after the certification deadline."

So if I understand this correctly my liceince obtained before the deadline of 1-1-06 actually does not have to be renewed untill 3-4-09, one year added because I got it before the deadline, I HOPE THIS IS CORRECT UNDERSTANDING.

Do you see/know something other?

Good friend of mine is a journeyman out there in sunny SoCal and he says it's a joke.

Money is the key. Send em a check, they send you a letter (with the word "certification" misspelled!) stating that you are a journeyman for three more years. No new card, nothing. He says it's a real top-notch state agency.

edit: spelling
