The test is about being able to find answers from the NEC book. Just familiarize yourself with the layout of the code, and use the index as much as you can. I have taken the test twice, as it was cheaper to just retest than it would have been to pay for CEU courses. It is an extremely easy test, so don't worry too much about it, you will pass.

I took the general exam a few months ago a a book i found in the library was more than helpfull it was the dewalt questions and answers for the california general exam speed at looking up refs in the code book is key to passing this exam and the dewalt book helps you to do this

It's a computer multiple choice exam
use the table of contents it is quicker, at least for me.

Looks like it is STILL based on the 2002 NEC

Ca. General Cert is NOT like a "J" test

Ca. General Cert is NOT like a "J" test

I took it this year and did not know what to expect. I prepared for a
real "j" test. but this is no where close. What it really is ,is a showing of
code awareness, and in that it is ok.

Nothing like the old Florida "J" License, back in the early 80's. 6hr test
but that "J" License was used a bit differently. You had to have a Licensed
man on the job at all times,or no one worked. That IS how my shop did two
jobs at once. They pulled me off the resort job, used mine on the Dock job.

You think you would get paid for this....not in Florida.

Don Outstanding Citizen of "Conch Republic"

Being that the Florida Keys seceded from the US , My "J" License is now from
a FOREIGN COUNTRY

It is still based on 2002 but will change to 2008 as of January 2011.
