Call for aid switches

Can anyone tell me where there are requiremnts for "call for aid " zwitches
in public bathrooms... I know the NEC doesnt address "accessabilty" req..
and I cant seem to find it in the ICC ANSI either...

I don't believe that there is a requirement.

The only place we have ever installed them here is in assisted care facilities.

ADA is not in the NEC, but I think it is available online.

Who do these switches call?

What kind of public facility?

Pull string, pull station, pushbutton?

Into a monitoring panel or a simple a/v signal?

Responding staff on site or remote?

Health care facility?

I'm curious as to where they are required. Sounds like it would be ADA, but I've never seen them in public restrooms. Where are you located?

God help us, when the 10 year olds realize what they do when you pull the cord.
An unattended facility would have non-stop false alarms.

They typically need to be manually reset (at least the old-style). But, yes.

The NEC says that you are exempt from this requirement if you hang a whistle above the toilet paper roll.

I installed them in an 'ambulatory admitting area' at our university hospital. I had to design the area (circa 1980), and maybe came across an requirement from the "joint hospital accrediting" group. Of course, they were in all "patient room" floors.
